Teenreads loves National Poetry Month, and so do our Teen Board members! To celebrate these 30 days of haikus, sonnets, limericks and everything in between, Teen Board member Mary M. wrote a series of poems addressing Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. As Mary notes, "In all of the poems, the 'you' is Holden. Most of them are written from a character's perspective (whose name is in the title), but two of them are written from a third-person perspective." Read Mary's poems below, and perhaps you'll be inspired to write some poems based off of one of your own favorite books!

Oh, those people. You know them. You live with them. And you probably read around them. Maybe you frequently have your nose stuck in a book and look up to see your mom asking you pointedly, “please set the table for the fifth time,” or maybe you have an older sibling who leaves books lying around the house (which become your supply of reading material).

When was the last time you saw your fellow classmates nose-to-pages riveted to the thick works of Dickens? Or sighing, melancholy, over Shakespeare at the beach?

Um. Never.

We recently asked our Teen Board to tell us their favorite book quotations. You probably have one yourself --- you read an excellent book and a line just sticks with you. You may not know why (and maybe not even care), but there it is, in the back of your mind, on the tip of your tongue or on the back of your eyelids. It speaks to you in some way, and that's all that matters. Maybe you even recite it during the perfect moment, and you smile to yourself because it's your own inside joke.

Let's see which quotations stood out to a few members of the Teen Board and maybe you'll get to know them a little better this way.
