There are two things I can't live without: my laptop and the ocean. They're more similar than you may think, actually --- my fingers can fly over the keys like a seagull soaring over the waves, I can weave a plot as mercurial as the sea, and I can surf the web. In real life, the ocean is a constant source of inspiration for my stories, and every Saturday I make the hour-long drive to the Pacific coast to surf. In the words of my favorite poet Sarah Kay, I love "the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline no matter how many times it's sent away."
