The magical gate separating the lands of Quill and Artime has been removed following the battle between the Wanteds and the Unwanteds. The more creative, artistic inhabitants of Artime  his twinprevailed over the dull and regimented Quill, and an uneasy truce between the two lands was formed. Mr. Today, the leader of Artime, welcomes anyone who wants to leave Quill, but that is easier said than done. Instead, most people have struggled with how to move forward, and that includes two very different twin brothers, Alex and Aaron.

"The magic pouring out of Artime is always interesting, and it’s fun to see what McMann will think of next to show that creativity really has no bounds. After reaching the end of this book, you’ll be eager for the next one and left wondering what in the world McMann will think of next!"

Aaron had been a Wanted and was on his way to the top. He had become the former high priestess’ top assistant and was about ready to make his move to take control over all of Quill when Mr. Today and the Unwanteds of Artime made their move. Now, all Aaron wants is to go back to the way it was when he was an in-control Wanted and the Necessaries did all the hard labor. Aaron has a plan, however, and you can bet it involves toppling the creative forces of Artime and Mr. Today.

Alex, on the other hand, was thrilled when the barrier between Quill and Artime was removed. Alex wants everyone to learn how to harness his or her creative talents and abilities. In fact, Alex becomes so caught up with advancing his magical abilities and teaching others that he is shocked when Mr. Today pulls him aside. It turns out that Mr. Today is planning on taking a little vacation, and he wants to leave Alex in charge! For his part, Alex is reluctant to take over a leadership position. He doesn’t want to be held responsible for Artime no matter how much he cares for it.

However, when a couple of children wash up on the shore with black thorns magically wrapped around their throats, Alex learns that there is more to worry about than just the tension between Artime and Quill. Apparently, the islands surrounding Quill are home to all sorts of people who may or may not be peaceful. Even though Mr. Today claims that he has full confidence in Alex, Alex isn’t sure that he’s ready to deal with the threats from both Aaron and these mysterious islands. The old saying goes that leaders aren’t born overnight, but Alex might not have a choice!

Lisa McMann ratchets up the action in this second installment of The Unwanteds series. The tension between twins Alex and Aaron is more palpable than ever, and you wonder who is going to blink first. The magic pouring out of Artime is always interesting, and it’s fun to see what McMann will think of next to show that creativity really has no bounds. After reaching the end of this book, you’ll be eager for the next one and left wondering what in the world McMann will think of next!

About the Book

Following the life-altering events at the conclusion of THE UNWANTEDS, the stark world of Quill and the magical haven of Artime are now home to whoever wants to live there, whether they are Wanteds, Unwanteds, or Necessaries.

In Artime, Alex Stowe and his friends continue to hone their artistic magical spells while welcoming newcomers, wondering how long this peace between Quill and Artime will last. Alex is stunned when Mr. Today comes to him with a very special request—one Alex questions his readiness for, until circumstances offer a dramatic answer.

And back in Quill, Aaron Stowe, Alex’s twin, faces a very different path. Devastated by his loss of status after Justine’s defeat and seething with rage toward Alex, Aaron is stealthily planning his revenge and return to power.

Alex and Aaron’s separate stories proceed with suspenseful pacing, colliding in a stunning climax that elevates sibling rivalry to epic proportions and leaves the fate of both worlds hanging in the balance.
