Anna and Grace grew up together. While not related, they were as close as any two real sisters could be. Anna’s mother died when she was just a child, leaving her father to raise her by himself. Grace’s family took Anna under their wing and treated her like one of their own. She even joined them on family vacations.

However, the dynamic of their relationship changed drastically when a newcomer, Heather, came to town. Anna gravitated towards Heather as they had a lot in common. But then the unthinkable happened. Heather disappeared, and her body was later discovered. Following her shocking death, Anna and Grace started hanging out again until Grace and her family moved to Australia, leaving Anna behind in England.
Now, Grace is back and looking to resume her friendship with Anna. But after all these years, Anna is different. She has a close circle of friends, none of whom like Grace. Author Heidi Perks touches on a number of themes in THE WHISPERS, including friendship, marriage and mental health. Relatively short chapters, strong characters and a compelling storyline make this book a must read. It opens with the discovery of a crime, which isn’t specified until much later. The story is told from multiple points of view, including unnamed individuals who “whisper” about what is going on in their small town. Be careful who you believe. The truth might surprise you.
