THE GREATEST ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER was, in fact, one of the greatest books ever! Personally, I don’t usually like zombies, but this book was amazing!

Jeff Strand, the author of THE GREATEST ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER, is no stranger to writing YA books as evidenced by his breakout success I HAVE A BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS. He is also adept at writing horror and thriller novels such as FANGBOY and SINGLE WHITE PSYCHOPATH SEEKS SAME. In this book, he combines his riveting horror style with a comedic and lively YA writing style to produce a wonderful blend of both.

This book is centered around a group of amateur teenage filmmakers who specialize in horror films. Although their other films have been flops that were less than an hour long, they plan on making the greatest zombie movie ever. With a zero dollar budget. In under a month. With parents, school, jobs and crushes on their backs. What could go wrong?

The characters develop not only in response to the outside world, but to their own inner selves as well. It is quite a treat to see how each character changes in response to different events throughout the story.

THE GREATEST ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER really reminded me of how amazing it is to have good friends. These three teenagers go through so much together --- they laugh, cry, yell at each other and stick with each other throughout the whole process. This book invokes a feeling of ambition within the reader, a feeling of “Yes! I can do it!” It is simply delightful to see the characters in this book go through highs and lows together.

Usually in books, either the character development is really great or the plot development is really great, but this book makes sure they are both simply amazing. The characters develop not only in response to the outside world, but to their own inner selves as well. It is quite a treat to see how each character changes in response to different events throughout the story. The plot of this book was amazing as well, full of twists and turns --- but always light at the end of the tunnel.

For me, the one downside to this book was the way the characters acted. Although they are supposed to be in high school, they acted more like they were in middle school. It was a little unrealistic at times to see the characters acting so childish, but it was also hilarious. The immaturity of the characters did make the story a bit difficult to swallow though, whether it was coated in hilarity or not.

To conclude, I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 12. It contains very little profanity and very little material that could be considered offensive, save for the occasional mention of fake blood or weapons. If you’re a fan of YA, and/or rags to riches stories, you’ll love THE GREATEST ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER by Jeff Strand!
