THE EMOTIONARY is the first book by Eden Sher, the actress who plays Sue Heck on “The Middle” and voices Star on Disney’s “Star vs The Forces of Evil.” I found the book very interesting, as it is basically a dictionary of made-up words to describe emotions. I found that half of these words were ones I needed in my life, but had no idea how to say them until now. Now that I know how to say them, I won't stop using them.

The book was a pretty quick read with no story line. Many of the words have comics to go along with them, keeping everything interesting. From words for emotional insubordination to fleeting moments of happiness, this book covers all the words you never knew you needed.

I know one word in THE EMOTIONARY that I really need is “timenesia,” or, a combination of time and amnesia that describes the experience of forgetting the time literally a second after one has checked a clock. There are other words like “inattextive,” --- text and inattentive --- or “irredependent,” which combines the terms irrational and independent. Most of the words are combinations of other words that are pre-existing.

This book is unlike any other I have read. It's less like a read, and more like a reference, something you’d keep around to have handy when you can't think of the word you need. Perhaps you suffer from dyscommunicatia, the inability to articulate a feeling through words, like Sher herself. If so, THE EMOTIONARY is just the book for you, with words that will make you realize just exactly how you are feeling.

While I did enjoy this book, I believed that there would be more to the book. I was expecting more words, and especially more comics than there were.
