Gideon Blake’s life revolved around baseball games, friends and making his family --- his dad in particular --- proud. All of that changes the day Gideon’s father dies right before his eyes. RIDERS by Veronica Rossi is a highly imaginative novel crafted with an intriguing hero and a fast-paced plot that promises excitement. Veronica Rossi did an excellent job of modernizing the legend of the four horsemen of the apocalypse in a realistic way. Each horseman is given a unique backstory that fits perfectly with the roles they are given to play. Of the four horsemen, Gideon, the main character, is War. Characterized by a hot temper and a strong mentality, he is both frustrating and endearing. The other horsemen --- Death, Famine and Conquest --- follow in like pursuit and the diversity each character brings adds depth to an already complex novel. Thrown in with the horsemen is Daryn, a strange girl whose mission is to unite them against the evil that threatens them. None of the characters are there just for show; they all add a new element to the story and readers will not be able to help but love each one of them.
 
Veronica Rossi does not stop at wonderful characters. The plot line itself is told in present tense, but Gideon is recounting the events as he is interrogated. It is clear something went wrong in the horsemen and Daryn’s plan, but readers are left in suspense until the very end. The combination of diverse characters with an exciting and suspenseful plot creates an unforgettable story for all readers.
