Paige Lancaster has come back to the East Coast to live with her mother after experiencing a number of setbacks with her job at a Hollywood TV studio, where she was a scriptwriter for a popular detective series.

Shortly after arriving in Connecticut, Paige drops off her daughter, eight-year-old Izzy, at school and runs into John Anderson, an old boyfriend from high school. Their meeting is friendly but a bit awkward, as so much has changed between them. She finds out that he’s married with kids, but he doesn’t mention his wife’s name.

"Like any good mystery, the story takes a lot of twists and turns. And like any good mystery writer, Kieran Scott tosses in several red herrings throughout the narrative."

Paige gets invited to the Parent Booster Association’s annual Parents and Pinot fundraiser, one of the major events of the year, held at Ainsley Anderson’s house. The president of the PBA, Ainsley runs the organization with a lot of bullying and browbeating of members to get what she wants. This doesn't sit well with Paige, who is strong-willed and doesn’t like to be bossed around.

While at the party, Paige runs into John again. That’s when she learns that he’s married to Ainsley, who later that evening is found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs at her home. Earlier, Paige overhears what sounds like an incriminating conversation between two guests at the party.

Paige has been befriended by an officer of the local police department. He asks her to go undercover and spy on the PBA members to see if she can figure out who committed the crime. Paige reluctantly says yes. The "detective" part of her is curious about what really happened to Ainsley. But even so, she wonders if she is cut out for the job. And will she be putting her own life in danger?

The writing in REGRETS ONLY is fast-paced, keeping you engaged and furiously turning the pages to see what happens next. The characters are believable and relatable. Everyone knows someone like Ainsley, who was the leader of a high school clique, the one who nobody wanted to cross.

Like any good mystery, the story takes a lot of twists and turns. And like any good mystery writer, Kieran Scott tosses in several red herrings throughout the narrative. The way she writes will have you second-guessing yourself about "whodunit" and rethinking the entire plot line. Keep reading, though, as it all comes together in the end.
