Breanna (Bree) Grace Wright, who is Black, comes across the lifeless body of a white woman believed to be Janelle Beckett, who had gone missing. Bree finds her in the foyer of the Airbnb townhouse that she and her boyfriend, Tyler Franklin, have rented as part of a romantic getaway in New York City.
Even though this is supposed to be a special weekend for the couple, Tyler has to go to work in the morning but tells Bree that he’ll be back later in the day to take her on a sightseeing tour of the city. But when Bree wakes up, Janelle is lying dead on the floor, Tyler is not around, and she can’t reach him. Apparently, he did not report to work.

When the cops show up, Bree is afraid that she'll be arrested and charged with murder. But an investigation clears her of any wrongdoing. Instead, the authorities want to pin the homicide on Tyler. Bree and Tyler have been together for only a few months, and admittedly there is much that she doesn’t know about him. However, she is certain that he is not capable of killing anyone.
The only way for Bree to clear Tyler’s name is to start snooping into his past and figure out who really took Janelle’s life. In the process, she puts herself in danger on more than one occasion. Gradually, a whole new picture of what actually happened emerges.
Most of the novel is written from Bree’s point of view, but the narrative is interspersed with chapters about a podcast hosted by Billie Regan, a social influencer who is primarily concerned with hair and makeup. But when Janelle goes missing, Billie starts devoting episodes to her disappearance and the investigation.
While revolving around a missing person’s case, MISSING WHITE WOMAN is also about racial disparity as it pertains to both law enforcement and economic circumstances, as well as social media and its impact on society. Kellye Garrett’s writing style will keep you turning the pages as these characters are believable, the storyline is engrossing, and the plot twists just keep coming.
