In KEEP THEM CLOSE, a ripping new thriller from David Ellis, the twists come hard and fast, so buckle up.
Allison Brice is a brilliant attorney who has almost everything she ever wanted, except that her husband, Finley, is cheating. He goes out to “play poker” every Wednesday. But Allison has followed him to see where he ends up, and it’s not with the boys at a card table. So now she has to figure out what to do about it. Allison is not the sort of woman to mess with. You don’t take something away from her. And from the time that Allison met Finley as a young girl, she wanted him. Honestly, why she still does is hard to understand, being the star of their marriage. But who can ever explain love? Allison chases what she wants and, for the most part, has gotten it.
"Don’t go thinking you know how KEEP THEM CLOSE is going to end --- at any point in the book. I pretty much can guarantee you’ll get it wrong."
So when Allison decides to get her brother Luke’s girlfriend, Trinity, out of the picture, she sets in motion a plan to make that happen. But it majorly backfires. Now Allison has to somehow clean up the mess she made and keep herself out from under police scrutiny. For now, though, she has other problems. If Finlay thinks he can get away with cheating on her, he’s badly mistaken. And she will make him pay.
As for Luke, Allison’s desire to meddle with her brother’s life goes back to when she and Luke were growing up. Their relationship has always been competitive. But they go beyond normal sibling rivalry. Let’s just say that Allison really wants to be the winner in everything she’s involved in. And she’ll do pretty much anything to make that happen. So now she sets her sights on how to take out Trinity. Then it hits her: Why not kill two birds with one stone? Eliminating Finley and Trinity would solve several problems. However, Allison still has the little matter of the original plan that blew up in her face. Maybe she can weave that into her next scheme.
Shockingly, Finley is found dead. There are no shortage of suspects. For starters, the cops already had their eye on Allison. With her husband now a murder victim, they’ll look even closer. But she provides them with a solid alibi for the time that he died. As for who else might have been there, video surveillance at the scene is not conclusive. Allison doesn’t need video, though, because she has a good idea of who did her husband in. Now all she has to do is figure out how to use the information to her advantage.
Don’t go thinking you know how KEEP THEM CLOSE is going to end --- at any point in the book. I pretty much can guarantee you’ll get it wrong. As mentioned at the beginning, the twists come hard and fast. And in this novel, they come at every turn of the page. Don’t miss this one if you like thrills.
