Emma has spent her entire professional life being a career woman, running her own company and taking care of herself. She has built a fabulous house on the edge of the woods that is eco-friendly and private. Even though there is no special man in her life, she doesn’t feel lonely. She has two female friends with whom she is very close, and they spend a lot of time together. That is, until Emma meets Matthew.

"FIRST WIFE’S SHADOW is a compelling psychological thriller about love, devotion, trust, deception, friendship and second chances. Readers are constantly left wondering what will happen next."

Handsome and kind, Matthew is a widower who is 10 years younger than Emma. Despite her better judgment, Emma allows herself to be swept off her feet. She just can’t seem to resist Matthew’s charms and charisma. It isn’t long before she is sharing her home with Matthew as they plan their wedding.

During their short courtship, Emma constantly deals with the “shadow” of Matthew’s first wife, Becky. Matthew assures Emma that he is devoted to her, but he also makes it clear that Becky will always hold a special place in his heart. Emma is determined to make their relationship work, but her friends are concerned that she is making a terrible mistake as they feel she is rushing into things.

Adele Parks tells the story from multiple points of view, beginning with Emma’s. But then the narrative switches and takes the first of many surprising turns as readers learn that everything is not as it might appear. There is plenty going on behind the scenes that Emma is not aware of. As their relationship progresses, she begins to harbor doubts of her own. She’s totally devoted to Matthew, but she wonders if he really loves her or if he’s just marrying her for her money.
