On the first of March 2016, after spending almost a year outside of earth's atmosphere, astronaut Scott Kelly returned safely to our home planet. His unique experience beyond the curvature of our small planet immediately prompted a flood of space-related thoughts, dreams and ideas. The strongest of these thoughts for me was my awareness of the unknown. I have no idea what is in space. I don't know what other planets look like. I don't even know if aliens exist! After considering these unknowns, it was an unbelievable relief to sit down and read Vicki L. Weavil’s novel, FACSIMILE. Set in a time where earth's overcrowded population has begun to overflow into surrounding planets, FACSIMILE gave me the opportunity to stretch my imagination far beyond the reaches of our galaxy.

Not only did I love FACSIMILE for its unbelievably creative settings and plot lines, but I also became strongly attached to all of the characters.

Anna-Maria --- who prefers to be called Ann --- is the main character of this novel. She lives, along with her family, on the only planet she has ever known: Eco. But Ann is looking for a way to explore beyond the confines of her home planet, so when a young boy named Dace arrives with a way out, she jumps at the opportunity. Through her adventure with the Jace, Ann is forced to confront her connection to Eco and her obligation to her family and community.

Not only did I love FACSIMILE for its unbelievably creative settings and plot lines, but I also became strongly attached to all of the characters. Weavil truly built a new universe full of love, conflict and deep personal connectivity. After turning the last page of the novel (metaphorically since I read it as an e-book) I felt a sort of sadness --- the kind of sadness you get when you have to leave your high school friends behind before going to college. I only hope that Weavil will write a sequel soon since I can't wait to be reunited with Ann, Dace and the rest of the FACSIMILE family.

FACSIMILE is truly a book for dreamers. It is a book for people who are ready to look beyond the confines of earth and towards bigger and better things. Happy reading!
