When May moved from Atlanta to Seattle in the 5th grade, she and Libby instantly became best friends. They spent their middle school days drawing comics featuring their own superhero, Princess X, and were always making up new stories in which their heroine could star. The girls enjoyed the regular rhythms of life, mixed in with some Princess X adventures, until the day May received some horrible news --- she’s told that Libby and her mother were killed in a car crash.

Suddenly, May's world is completely flipped upside down. She has lost her co-storyteller. Over the next three years, May moves back to Atlanta and tries to recover from the loss of her best friend.

Between beautifully drawn comics, interesting websites and exciting dialogue, Cherie Priest took me on a journey I won't forget.

Three years later, during a visit back to Seattle, May spots a sticker as she is walking down the street. She takes a closer look and is shocked to recognize Princess X! Suddenly, May starts to wonder if Libby really died in that car crash. With the help of her new friend, Patrick, the Princess X comics and a mysterious computer hacker, May begins a quest to find the truth.

I AM PRINCESS X explores the complexity and importance of friendship. While I was reading the book, I was constantly reminded of the way I interact with my peers and friends. After reading the novel, I developed a stronger appreciation for my friends. Reading about a character who lost her best friend has encouraged me to treasure my friendships.

Between beautifully drawn comics, interesting websites and exciting dialogue, Cherie Priest took me on a journey I won't forget. This tale of friendship, bravery and a sword-wielding princess is one that could be enjoyed by anyone in middle school or above. I hope you love delving into the magical world of Princess X as much as I did! I am sure that you will come out of this book with an even deeper appreciation for all of the friends who make your life wonderful!
