Tell us about your favorite place to shop for books and why you like going there.
Sharron
I love going to Barnes & Noble and picking up various books I have read reviews or received recommendations for. I go to the cafe, often with friend, and we peruse and read excerpts, seeing if we want to purchase things. I still want to hold and look at a book --- no eBooks for me! I am most disappointed, however, that they have turned over a huge section of their store to toys and puzzles.
Lorna
My favorite place is my local library's bookstore. The books there range from .50 cents to $1. I go maybe once a month, and there is a big turnover of books. I always donate back what I buy. The people that volunteer their time there are always friendly and like to chat about what I am purchasing, and I enjoy that.
Cindy in CA
I love the smell of new books!
Richard B.
Used book sales at the library, garage sales, or Goodwill (or similar charity shops).
Steven S.
Powell's in Portland, Oregon, and I shop Amazon.com for eBooks every day.
Dona M.
I purchase most books at Amazon, and I get 30% off and points for gift cards and gas cards with my Amazon credit card. I like Half-Price books also, especially the sale wall in the back, where books are $2-3.
Debbie
I get most of my books from my wishlist on paperbackswap.com because I can keep trading what I have back in for something new. I also buy at eharlequin.com (they have good deals) and, lastly, at Borders.com when I have a good coupon.
Mary L.
I love to shop at Square Books in Oxford, Mississippi. It has an outstanding collection of books by a broad selection of authors, the employees are very helpful, and there are books in every corner of the building.
Debbie M.
My favorite bookstore is Magnolia's Bookstore here in Seattle. Partly that's because I work there part-time, but it's also because the owner has a terrific sense of which books are perfect for the store and the neighborhood. Even before I worked at the store, I could always count on finding something new and fascinating to buy. We are also immediately next door to a bakery, so there's a natural sharing of customers. People meet up in the bookstore, and it's a great way to catch up with friends. Indies are the best!
Peggy
I may not buy a lot of books at Borders, but I do enjoy going every week. I love looking for new books and having a cup of coffee in the cafe. It is truly sad that this book store and B&N may simply cease to exist soon. Book stores are just special, and we should be fighting to save them.
Diana T.
Even though I usually use a Kindle, when I go to Costco, I enjoy their book section. The prices are wonderful.
Tanya F. in CO
Barnes & Noble --- it is comfy, has Starbucks, is well lit, and I get a teacher discount
Peggy
Barnes & Noble because it is the biggest bookseller near us, and I love spending the day there looking at books and movies.
Judy B.
Collected Works Bookstore in Santa Fe, NM --- it's like an old-time bookstore. It has chairs and a fireplace, and you can have coffee, and there are books galore. The owner works there, and all the people who work there are book people. It's my favorite!
Lynn M.
The public library, INDEPENDENT used bookstores, or PaperBackSwap.com.
Elizabeth
If I buy books, Borders is my favorite place to buy them. But I usually just use the library or win books!!
jeanne
The Bookmark on Bloor St. West in Toronto, Ontario. For almost 30 years, I have bought all my books there, and they order them for me when I read about them on your web site. Many thanks for all you do for me.
Sincerely,
Jeanne N.
Myra H.
The Borders in Oklahoma City, OK. It has a very homey atmosphere, and if I can't find what I am looking for, they are gracious enough to order it for me. It's my favorite bookstore!!
Merry W.
I work for the local library system, so I don't buy many books. But when I do buy them, I usually go to Borders. They usually have what I am looking for, and they are always very friendly and helpful. They also have a good coffee area.
Susan
Bookcloseouts.com
Linda in Alaska
There are a couple thrift stores (the ASPCA and The Bishop's Attic) here in Anchorage that have great book selections. The prices are amazing, and from time to time, I hit the mother lode. Though I still spend plenty of money at Barnes & Noble and our local indie used bookseller, I have to admit that "treasure hunting" in these two thrift stores is the most fun.
Sue
Tatnuck Books in Westborough, MA. It is an independent bookstore that has a cafe, gifts and books. It is very uplifting, and it's a lot of fun to walk around in it and browse. The book selection is great!
Lois C.
Barnes & Noble because it is so well lit, and they have the books I am looking for and good discounts. But the main reason I go there is that it's easy to drive to.
Ginger L.
Amazon because I don't have to get dressed to go there.
Rebekah M.
There's a used bookstore chain here in AZ called Bookman's. I end up getting lost there for hours, as it's the kind of place where you just never know what you will find. Their buyers are selective and top-notch. For new books, I usually shop at Barnes & Noble. There aren't really any good indie places near me, and B&N has free wi-fi, great coffee and snacks, and extra content for my Nook. Again, they don't mind if you sit and look all day.
Rebecca B.
Amazon because I have a Kindle!
Lee M.
Amazon. It has good prices, free shipping, good reviews, it's easy to use etc.
Liz
Barnes & Noble when I'm out and Amazon when I'm at home.
Eleen R.
At varoius websites --- it is more convenient.
Steve C.
B&N --- good choices and good coffee.
lisa
Sadly, most of my favorite indie stores have gone by the wayside. As much as I'm not a fan of box stores (Borders/B&N), in many cases, I now rely on them for purchasing. An online "store" can never replace the opportunity a reader has to stumble upon a book by chance at a retail location, and the joy that readers experience when they do. Some stores that I wish were closer to me are The Strand and Once Upon a Crime.
Gloria H.
Inkwood Books in Tampa, Florida. It's a small indie bookshop, and I know their material. They hold special events for book clubs, and it's personal.
Kathryn M.
My favorite place to shop for books is the Borders in Danbury, CT. I don't have an independent bookseller nearby, and I feel a little guilty that it's a chain store, but I like this store. I like the way the store is layed out, with different sections. The people that work there are real book-lovers, and it's helpful to talk to them, too. I even like talking to the customers --- I always end up recommending books to someone. There are nooks and crannies to sit down in and check out books, and I like the coffee shop, too!
F. Tessa B.
Next Chapter Book Shop in Mequon, WI is my local independent bookstore. I know most of the booksellers there, and they know me. They post little notes throughout the shelves with their recommendations for specific books. They have a great book club support staff --- they offer discounts on our book club selections, special events, and recommendations that are just for book clubs. They have wonderful author events. I visit Next Chapter pratically every week; I buy three to five books a month from them.
Irene
It depends on what book I want. I check several websites for the lowest price...and the best prices on shipping and handling. The Book Depository is great, but I also frequent our local Borders (with a coupon) and Barnes & Noble (with family gift cards).
Darlene D.
The only bookstore in my area is a Books-A-Million. I frequent it often for magazines and books...it's got a good selection. My purchases also include many children's titles, and I usually find what I want. The service is good, and the staff is helpful. I'm so glad the store is nearby.
Nancy V.
My local indie bookstore. I love trolling the many levels and aisles to find treasures and surprises. The staff is wonderful, offering reviews and sharing their views on the authors, as well. They also sponsor author visits. What more could I want?!
Trez B.
I love Amazon.com. I usually go to Barnes & Noble to look for books and then order them on Amazon. A lot of my books are purchased from the Coming Soon list.
Connie F.
I actually love going to Barnes & Noble for book-buying. I can get a cup of yummy Starbucks coffee and meander around, making a mental wish list of books I want to get down the road, in addition to buying those I just can't wait to read!
Beth C.
I used to love shopping at the Barnes & Noble in Fargo, ND because it was such a warm, friendly store. They had many overstuffed chairs, library tables with chairs and a Starbucks (the first one in Fargo). It was also the place my book club met.
Now, I don't live in Fargo. The B&N in Sioux Falls, SD is not quite so inviting (there are no tables, fewer chairs and no book groups), so I find that I do most of my book shopping online. I go to Amazon and to B&N.com. I sometimes shop at a local independent bookstore (Zanbroz), but the selection there tends to be limited. Nonetheless, I read at least one book a week that I have purchased.
Peggy C.
The PUBLIC LIBRARY!
(1) It's free! (2) They always have what I'm looking for, and more. (3) They have a request and hold service. You request the book, and when they get it, you're called for a pick-up. (4) The service is friendly, and everyone is knowledgeable and quiet. (5) Everyone is welcomed. You can stay 5 minutes, or you can stay for a whole afternoon! (6) The space has a pleasant decor. It has large, comfy chairs for quiet reading and computers set up for public use, yet everyone's privacy is respected. (7) It's more than a book depository. We have a book club, and we have meetings for public interest and continuing education. (8) It's open six days a week, and the hours are convenient. It's centrally located in our small town.
vb
I buy 99% of my books at Barnes & Noble.
Tanya
Amazon, Barnes & Noble, library book sales and the Goodwill. I shop at these places because they're convenient, and they have good prices.
Carolyn M.
Half Price Books because of the price, and I can find books that are out of print and not mainstream. I also like Amazon because they have almost all the books I need, even when I can't find them at a local bookstore. I shop at my local bookstores for the latest publications or for bestsellers.
Kristy
Barnes & Noble mostly because it is close by, and I also like that I can sit down and look at the books I'm thinking of buying. I like the atmosphere.
Marion J.
Powell's Bookstore in Oregon. They have new books and used books and almost anything you'd want to read. I like Powell's because they care about my needs. They know my interests, and they make great offers to meet those needs. Thanks, Powell's.
Sylvia S.
Amazon.com. I have two kindles, which were given to me by my father and my husband. I have both sizes, and I use the smaller one to take with me whenever I go out. Also, I have received so many good reads for free, and I can pre-order books forthcoming books by my favorite writers.
Linda W.
Barnes & Noble because I can always find what I want, and I never have to wait.
Martha L.
I usually shop at Amazon.com, DeepDiscount.com, or GoHastings.com. I shop at these websites because the prices are excellent, and sometimes the shipping is free.
Robert B.
I use the internet and buy mostly from either Amazon or AbeBooks. I buy a lot of ARCs, and I also do not mind buying used books, since I usually buy to read, not to collect.
Anthony R.
Amazon --- they have good prices, good service, NO SALES TAX, and you can review the book before purchase. There's also no shipping charge because I purchase more than one book per order.
Harriet I.
Barnes & Noble is my favorite place to buy books, especially since I bought my Nook. I get technical help from them, and I can download books right from the store. I live in a dead zone and usually can't get service from my home, which is very strange.
M. Smith
Amazon
Margi P.
Because I live 70 miles from the nearest bookstore, I generally buy all my books now for the Nook. I also use my local library.
Carolyn S.
I shop locally so my favorite book store will stay in business. They know my name, my tastes in books ,and they will order anything I want. Plus, the workers are readers themselves and have great reading ideas. It's called Books 'N More, and it's in Coldwater, Michigan
kathryn
Borders is the only bookstore in town. And it's where our book club meets...and shops.
Diane B.
The public library or Borders.
Rosalie G.
I shop for books on my Amazon Kindle. It is great because I am old and not well, and I can have whatever books I wish at any time.
Sandra P.
OTTO'S BOOKSTORE in Williamsport, PA. The people are always friendly, they love to discuss books, and they're knowledgeable.
Tamara R.
I buy mostly online, and now with Kindle, because I take care of a mother with Alzheimer's, and I don't get out shopping.
Benita S.
My favorite place to shop for books is the Amazon "used books" site. I can often get books, even hardcovers, for $.01, which, with the $3.99 shipping charge, means they cost just $4 --- that's much less than paperback these days.
ck
Joseph Beth in Cincinnati --- an independent bookseller with a large selection of titles, including children's books and CDs --- is one of two hometown favorites. Many authors speak at the store. The restaurant provides good food and a place to meet up with friends. The staff is always helpful and pleasant.
The other independent is small, cozy and a wonderful place to get advice for book groups and pleasure reading. It is The Bookshelf in Madeira, OH.
Terri B.
Amazon is my favorite place to shop because there are no crowds, and they ALWAYS have what I'm looking for. I like to go into Barnes & Noble to browse.
Rosalie S.
My favorite places are www.bn.com and the Barnes & Noble stores near me. They have such a marvelous selection of books, and the store is so relaxing to visit --- I love to have a Starbucks coffee and peruse the books.
Lisa
B&N. It feels like home, it's close by, and they have Starbucks coffee.
Sara W.
Taylor's Book Store. It is an independent bookstore that also has an art gallery and a coffee shop with marvelous coffees, teas and homemade goodies to eat. It also has live music on weekends, and it's a great place to see friends. They're also willing to order titles for you that might not be in stock.
julie
I love the atmosphere in our little independent book store in our town. It has a sitting area and a place to drink coffee. It's cozy and fun to spend time in
Judith W.
The Borders in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. They have a helpful staff, a coffee shop, a nice layout, and they don't hassle browsers.
Betsy
My favorite place to shop for books is Amazon.com. I can do this at my leisure at any time and for as long as I like.
Rebecca C.
My favorite place is Half Price Books. If I'm lucky, I can find current releases for half off or LESS, and this includes audio books, which my husband and I listen to while traveling.
Laurie
Amazon.com. They have the best prices, reviews, selection, etc. Why go anywhere?
Eileen K., Ph.D
I like to go to independent sellers as it reminds me of my jaunts to all sorts of bookstores as a child in NY!
Gail L.
Thrift stores or used book stores because they are inexpensive.
Andria P.
Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ, though I shop through their online catalog more than I visit.
Amy G.
The Kindle store --- I love my Kindle and enjoy downloading from the Amazon Kindle site.
Msannie9181
Barnes & Noble is where I go most often, but my favorite was a Little Professor store in my community that went out of business several years ago --- the atmosphere was very reader-friendly, and the employees were knowledgable.
diane
I obtain most of my books through Amazon.com. I find the prices are cheaper, and the books are usually in stock. They also have titles that I may not have even considered buying, which they let me know about on a recommendations page. Go Amazon.com!
Janey N.
Barnes & Noble! Because I love it there --- it's my favorite store!
Linda J.
I live in a very small rural community (10-12,000 people) with an independent book store, Ye Olde Book Nook. They have a monthly book discussion and host the yearly county-wide read, in which they invite a spokesperson from book discussions to present one book to a group of attendees, who subsequently vote on which book to read. The store offers a discount on any book being read by any book discussion group. I feel fortunate to have a book store in my community --- especially since the Walden's and Doubleday book stores in the mall in the next town closed.
mary f.
I love, love, love going to the Barnes & Noble in Sioux Falls, SD to shop for books because of the employees. They are so friendly and helpful that I consider them my family. The coffee shop is also a great stop. The employees there are just as nice!
Pam D.
I love to get my books out of the local library. I lose myself in the stacks and stacks of books, shelf after shelf, then find a cozy corner and take 10 minutes for myself.
Debra M.
I love shopping at Barnes & Noble! The staff is always friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. Plus, there's a tremendous selection of other items, such as music, DVDs, educational toys and games, and the NOOK. And, new titles and strict-on-sales are always available upon release.
Helen K.
Amazon is my favorite place to shop for books --- I love the reviews and how they offer books in various formats, as well as other information, such as list mania. My other choice, of course, is the public library.
Judy S.
Barnes & Noble because you can find anything you want, and if not, they will order it.
Fran
Barnes & Noble --- I have a Nook, and it is so easy to download books from them. I also have a local Barnes & Noble store, where I shop for my print books.
Harriet S.
My favorite place has been by mail at Murder by the Book in Houston, TX. I met the manager, David Thompson, at Bouchercon and found that he and I had similar tastes. He’s called me at times to let me know about a book or author whom he was especially excited about. For heaven's sake, where else would you get this kind of service? David passed away a couple of months ago, and I’m sure how this will impact the store. I also purchase Canadian and foreign books from a long-time friend, who is the owner of Sleuth of Baker Street, which is located in Toronto. My third book shop is also by mail and that is M is for Mystery in San Mateo, CA. All three have first editions, which are often signed during author visits/readings. A really wonderful service is that U.S. shops cover the books in protective Brodart jacket covers.
An aside: I rarely shop at my local bookstore because I've yet to see a smile cross their lips. I would like to support my local business (and tax base), but they're not mystery readers (obviously), and most of the stock has the tourists in mind.
Martha C.
The Strand, but I never go there. It's too overwhelming
Kay
I go online to Amazon so I can read the synopses and reader reviews...the good and the bad. It is easy, reliable and fast shopping.
Valerie R.
My favorite place, hands down, is Barnes & Noble! I love that they have places for you to sit and read, and I like the set-up of the store, in that things are easy for me to find. I also love the atmosphere...it's very calm and relaxing.
Phyllis P.
Since I own a Kindle, I buy many books for it at Amazon.com.
Julie S.
Amazon! Best prices, lots of reviews and fast shipping. My next favorite place is Barnes & Noble, which is about 20 minutes away. I could spend hours in that store!
Barbara
I buy books at Barnes and Noble. B&N is a very firendly place to meet other people and talk to them about different books and authors. I always find a book that someone has told me about, and I enjoy reading them.
c walther
I love BetterWorldBooks.com. Those young guys have done a fantastic job of helping so many people in so many ways. And I just love to recycle!
But I still love browsing a real bookstore --- Barnes & Noble is definitely a fav. When I lived in Ann Arbor, MI, I loved the independent bookstore there, but alas, it has since closed :(. I fear books will become obsolete, as eReaders are becoming more pervasive. That makes me terribly sad.
Debbie
My favorite place is Barnes & Noble. I love going in there to browse/buy, grab a latte in the Starbucks, and sit there and relax. My B&N always has great music playing (I love their music section, too), and I would love to be able to figure out how to "sneak" one of their reading chairs out. Lol. It's just a great place to go. Let me say, too, that I would also love to patronize indie bookstores, but there aren't any close enough for me to drive to.
Patricia R.
Amazon.com --- I can read a chapter or two, and with one click, it appears on my Kindle! I LOVE my Kindle!
Lora G.
I don't usually buy books because I use the public library, but when I do I get them from Barnes & Nobel bookstores. They are bigger and have a better selection.
Marjorie C.
The Seattle semi-annual book sale. The venue is large, the selection is good, and the price is perfect --- $1 for hardcovers and $.50 for paperbacks. There is even a section titled "Better Books," where you can buy the most recent hardcovers for $4-5.
Judy D.
Amazon.com because of the ease of ordering and paying. But I shop at Barnes & Nobles for eBooks because I have a Nook.
T. Thomas
My favorite place used to be Barnes & Noble, but I now have an iPad, and I love reading on it. Most of the books I have purchased recently have been in the Kindle format.
Veronica E.
My favorite place for books is the library (which is where I work). If a new book comes out that I would like to read, I just ask the reference department, and they order it. I am very LUCKY! But if I do buy a book, I like independent book stores.
Chrsitine S.
My local public library.
Celeste
Borders is the place to go for books. Their stores are cozy and inviting. They are well lit, the displays are well organized, and they have very helpful employees. They also have a wonderful coffee shop, and they have Border bucks!! And they offer coupons, which the other book stores I've visited don't do. If I have a coupon for a percentage off of one book, I can easily afford to buy two books on that trip instead of just one. I will be really, really disappointed if they close their doors, and I really don't think I will spend as much money as I do now on new books at other book stores. I will definitely be looking into the second-hand market. Barnes & Noble is just so cold and uninviting.
Kari R.
I shop quite a bit at the Barnes & Noble near my home. I also enjoy shopping online at Amazon. The Borders is further from my house. I'm a busy mother of three, therefore convenience is probably the most important factor for me.
sue s.
I seek out privately owned used book stores for most of my book buying, as well as Friends of the Library book sale rooms.
Sharon W.
I love shopping at the library's Friends of the Library used book sections. I often get current bestsellers in great condition for between $2 and $5. It's nice that there are five libraries near me.
Patti D.
The library!!!!
Robert R.
Joesph Beth in Lexington, KY. It is a very comfortable bookstore, and I love their mystery/thriller section.
Jennifer J.
I loved my local B&N. I knew where everything was, and it was always so quiet, like a library; I could roam the aisles for hours. They also seemed to highlight the books I was interested in. It was a great fit until they closed this past month.
John S.
American Discount in Amsterdam. They always have the newest books on sale. Also, you can get a 10% discount if you buy a sort of membership card.
JMS
Barnes & Noble, hands down. It's always been my favorite place to shop because of the selection, the comfort and the inviting atmosphere.
Lenny B.
I used to love Crown, but now I buy 90% of my books from Amazon.com because of the selection, the discounts, the immediate transaction, and the fact that the book arrives within 2-3 days max.
Donna
My favorite place to buy books is Amazon.com because I can shop from home, they have great discounts, most of what I buy qualifies for free shipping, the service is prompt, and the books arrive in great condition. I also buy from a couple of book clubs, but usually Amazon can beat their prices.
Ilene H.
Barnes & Noble because they have a good selection.
Amy H., The Black Sheep Dances
The big, bad Amazon is the place for me. Selection trumps everything, and it also serves as a sort of research database when I'm looking for related titles. Plus, I can throw a toy in for the kid while I'm there. With free shipping and my prime membership, books are just two days away. I'd love to support the smaller stores, as well as B&N and Borders, but they don't carry the obscure titles I prefer --- they put too much focus on mainstream titles and merchandise.
Cheryl K.
Barnes & Noble. It is a very relaxing environment in which to browse, and they also offer exceptional customer service I have questions, need suggestions, etc. I am able to request books online and then pick them up at my local store.
Pam
Half.com or Amazon.com. Living in a small town that's an hour away from a bookstore means that shopping online is the most convenient and most economical way for me to buy books --- and, most of the time, it's a must.
Elaine R.
Amazon because of the ease of ordering, the cost and the fast delivery. Yet the bookstore is my favorite place to shop for books if I feel like treating myself. The feel, the smell and the conversation all add to the bookstore's comfortable atmosphere!!!
GINI S.
I buy books from the library’s sale shelves and local thrift stores…I love acquiring books, but I don’t think it’s necessary to pay outrageous prices for new books when I have to go to places like Barnes & Noble and Borders, that have put the small, local bookstores out of business. If I want to put a book on my bookshelf, I buy it used, and if I’m looking for a popular bestseller that I’ll only read once, I get it from the library.
Joan M.
I love to shop at Amazon.com because they have almost every book I could ever want at the lowest prices.
Patricia A.
The Syosset Library --- I read constantly, and I love to browse the new book stacks or hunt for older treasures. When I'm buying a book, I go to Book Revue in Huntington --- it's the last local book store. They have fabulous authors come there to present their books.
Liz E.
I buy a lot of my books at BOMC2.com --- formerly called Zooba. They have all of the bestsellers --- including cookbooks and children's books for $9.95, as well as free shipping. I always check there first before buying from a true bookstore or another website.
Wendy C.
I shop at Chapters. I could shop there for hours, and they have a coffee in the there, as well. I can also relax and read in one of their cozy chairs.
Chapters is a large Canadian bookstore, and the atmosphere is very comfortable.
Sue
Amazon because I can shop in my pajamas!
Joanne
I generally shop for books online or buy books for my iPad.
Robert C.
I don't purchase books anymore. We go online and then reserve them at our local library. It is the best source, and it's free. They have all the lastest bestsellers.
Carol P.
I buy all my books from Amazon.com. Most of them are for my Kindle, but I also buy books as gifts from them. The service is great, the prices are reasonable, and it's easy to order online.
tom w.
I buy books on my iPad and my Kindle.
Jill P.
Daedalus Books and Warehouse in Columbia, Maryland. They have publisher overstocks at great prices! My husband and I estimate that we have spent something in the four-figure range on books there ever since we found the place.
Barbara C.
I either go to the library or buy used books from Amazon.
Bobbie D.
I look for books online and then reserve a copy at the library. I've also bought from Barnes & Noble and Costco a few times, and I exchange books with friends
tNedra S.
Barnes & Noble.
Gretchen P.
Baarnes & Noble because it is a comfortable store!
Brenda B.
I shop at the library for the new releases ( they're free). If I want a to purchase a book, I shop at the library bookshop. I win because of the lower price and the great selection, and they win because they get more money for more books.
Jean K.
I like to shop at Barnes & Noble online because I can find the books I like at a discount price.
R Garrity
BetterWorldBooks.com. They have a very wide selection of used books and a reasonable selection of new ones. Also, their customer service is first-rate, and their books are shipped as promised. And, most importantly of all, their used books come from a variety of small booksellers, and every purchase results in a literacy-related donation.
Kim B.
I love shopping for e-books from my comfy chair on my laptop, often from B&N.com (the Barnes & Noble website). I can shop from anywhere 24/7, and I never have to fight traffic or park a car!
Amy G.
My favorite place to shop for books is Amazon.com, as I have a Kindle. Through access to their free book downloads, I have found new authors that I probably would not have read otherwise, and I have bought their other books as a result.
Vickie W.
I shop online at Barnesandnoble.com because I am a member and get a discount and free shipping!
Connie R.
Barnesandnoble.com or Amazon.com. I can read about the books, and the prices are good. I also have a Nook, and I don't have to wait if I buy at B&N. Amazon sends things in two days, so there is not much waiting with them either.
Ann
AMAZON. It’s convenient, I don’t have to pay shipping if the order is over $25, I can get rewards on my credit card, my books arrive quickly, and I can get them either used or new. Also, if the price changes between the time of the order and the delivery date, I can pay the lower price.
Noel W.
The Barnes & Noble store is close by, and I love to browse --- and often buy --- there. I may have a cup of coffee there, too. I really like Christmas shopping there, not only for books, but also for games and kits. It's a great store.
Sharon W
I love Amazon...my bank account does not! When I can, I shop at Barnes & Noble stores. I like the "bookshop" atmosphere there, as well as the prices. Here, in my very small town, we have two bookshops, one of which is a used bookstore. I like going there for unusual reads.
Judy D.
Half Price Books...The name alone tells you the reason why I love shopping there.
Sandra B.
I shop at Pam's Paperbacks in Wilbraham, Ma. I buy all my books there; it is a wonderful store, full of current works, used paperbacks and wonderful children's books. To say that it's a pleasure to browse there is an understatement.
Arlecia
I'm very lucky to work in a library that has a great used book sale that's run by our volunteers. Not only are the prices low, but the money goes back into our branch!
Helen W.
The Barnes & Noble at Dana Park in Mesa, AZ. They have a nice layout, and everyone very helpful.
Anna
I do like to shop at Borders because of the wonderful selection and the friendly staff. However, I have to go to a nearby town to shop there, so many of my perchases are made online.
Pat S.
I shop for books at two places, actually: Sam's Club because of the great prices, and Books-A-Million because I love to just look around there, shop and enjoy the atmosphere!!!
Kearstie G.
I love shopping at Barnes & Noble. The store is very well laid out, with new books in the front and the rest of the books separated by genre. It has wide aisles and chairs for reading, as well as a small cafe area. The lighting is good, and it is just a pleasure to browse there. They have a broad selection --- not too many copies of any one book, but plenty of different titles.

I do buy books at Borders, but I also use the Dallas library for much of my reading.

If I shop for books, I do it at a thrift store or a yard sale...everything eventually shows up at the thrift store! I also use the library. I use these venues because I am budgeting, and if you can get a used book for a few dollars or for free, why buy it new?

Bookdepository.com has good price discounts on pre-orders and free shipping. I also use the Strand for US editions that are not printed in UK or Australia.

Amazon.com because of the great prices.

Now that I have a Kindle, I shop mostly at Amazon.com. But for paperback books, I shop mostly at BJ's or Walmart.
Cindy
The library --- the books are free, and they have a huge selection!!

Barnesandnoble.com. It's easy, and I can get free shipping and discounts because I'm a member and use their credit card.

I go to my public library because it's free, and there's nothing like it. The staff is friendly, and I think it's important to support your local library.

BookBeat, the independent bookstore in Oak Park, MI that's been in business since 1982. They have a most wonderful pair of owners in Colleen and her husband. She is very knowledgable about all things bookish! I would recommend their store to everyone!!!!

Amazon.com --- I can shop for eBooks, used books, paperback books and hardcover books 24/7, and never have to leave home!

Barnes and Noble --- they good, broad selection of available books.

I love my local independent bookstore, The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza. I am not a chain bookstore person. Buy local, I say!
Deb B.
I shop at Amazon out of habit, and for the convenience and the pricing.

Mysteries To Die For in Thousand Oaks, CA because they have a great selection of books, they know what you like to read, and they can make suggestions that introduce you to new authors. They bring in authors all the time. They know your name, and they are very friendly, warm and helpful.

Octavia Books, a locally owned, inependent bookshop. The owners are committed to providing excellent service, and it shows in the way they and their staff treat their customers. Everyone greets me by name when I enter the store. They have learned my tastes in reading and often have good suggestions because they keep up with new releases. They are also very helpful when I am choosing books for my grandchildren. The store's website makes it easy for me to order books and pick them up on my next in-person visit. Overall, a visit to Octavia is like a visit with friends, and I would not get that at a chain store.

The Cranberry Bookworm in New Jersey because you are actually living wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with the books.

I like going to the big, bad box stores. I love that I have so many choices and that I can get lost in the bookstore and be left alone.

I purchase most of my books online from Powell's Books in Oregon. I can search by author or title, buy used paperbacks, pay no sales tax (I live in TX), and if I buy $50 worth of books, then I don't have to pay shipping charges. The quality of their books and their selection are excellent.

I order used books from anywhere online.

I enjoy the Barnes and Noble store in Oak Brook, IL. It's in an outdoor mall, so I can either make a special trip or just stop in while doing other shopping. I love to browse through the stacks and enjoy books in the comfy chairs by the fireplace.

The Corner Shelf in Omak, WA. I go there because it is an independent bookstore. I like the local flavor of the store, but it also has everything I would want. They order books for me if they're not in stock.

Amazon. I can get good prices on pre-orders, and I can get used and new books for good prices from Amazon sellers.
