What would be your favorite book to give/get on Valentine's Day?

A quirky suspense novel to give on Valentine's Day would beOutside Valentine by Liza Ward. A story told from the perspective of three narrators involving the history of the Charlie Starkweather murder spree in 1950s Nebraska: Caril Ann Fugate, the 14-year-old who joined Starkweather in flight; Susan Hurst, a teenager who remained fixated on the murders in her hometown four years after the event; and Lowell Bowman, a Manhattan art collector haunted by his parent's murder. Ward interweaves these three voices over time and joins them in trying to comprehend their lives and heal their past.

I'll be giving copies of The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene to my friends. This compendium of true-to-life escapades undertaken by famous and unknown seducers throughout history outlines the often not-so-honorable techniques used to attract, capture and wield power over others. In an era where social manipulation evidenced best in Reality Shows reigns supreme, The Art of Seduction may not be a palpable how-to as much as it is an important cautionary read!

I would give either of Mitch Albom's books Tuesdays With Morrieor The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

I would love to give a gift to a friend whose long-time boyfriend has just broken off their engagement. The book is Some Men Are More Perfect Than Others by Merle Shain. A perfect book to get you back on your feet again!

I would most like to receive a book of Pablo Neruda's poetry on Valentine's Day.

Honeymoon by James Patterson and Howard Roughan is at the top of my list. It is on order and I am hoping it arrives before the next snowstorm...

The book I would most like to get and give would be The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty. I just finished reading it and didn't want it to end! A wonderful book!

Sounds silly but I would like to get My Life by Bill Clinton.
JoyZoo@aol.com
Wicked Women's Wit by Michelle Lovric, a book I ordered from the catalog Bas Bleu as a stocking-stuffing type Christmas gift for my adult daughter. I kept putting off wrapping it because every time I picked it up to wrap, I got so engrossed in the short, very funny quotes. This is a book to spend any amount of time reading, a book to share, a book of great witticisms that come in handy on many occasions.

My favorite book to give/get on Valentine's Day: an autographed copy of A Salty Piece of Land by Jimmy Buffett.

The perfect gift would be a book by Katherine Valentine, but I've given my wife all the books she's written to date (which she really liked). I'll look at the bookstore selections, but if I can't find something comparable, I'll probably give her a romantic video and a card.

Since John Grisham's The Broker came out in January this year instead of February, my husband was a little lost for direction in selecting my annual Valentine's book! Not to worry --- Greg Iles's latest, Blood Memory, is being released the day following cupid's heyday, but I am willing to wait. Mississippi writers are worth the wait. I mean REALLY --- who can get over Grisham, Iles, Larry Brown, Willie Morris, Eudora Welty, Barry Hannah, Jill Conner-Brown, or Nevada Barr (we claim her too!)?

The Complete Stories, a collection of short stories by Zora Neale Hurston. Read the very first selection, "John Redding Goes to Sea," aloud to your significant other. Punctuate with a glass of champagne and discover a sensory experience the most extravagant night on the town could not eclipse.

SoniaSEZ@aol.com
I'd like to receive and give the book Chocolate: A Bittersweet Saga of Dark and Light by Mort Rosenblum. I listened to Diane Rehm interview the author on NPR last week. It is the perfect gift, of course along with a box of really good dark Belgium chocolate!

As a child, I learned that St. Valentine's Day was about communications, writing letters of compassion and goodness to those who would be most appreciative of such a gift. Sometime ago I received Jonathan Hull's Losing Julia and find it fitting for Valentine's Day. We learn that such gifts can either be squandered or can serve as a strong foundation for a meaningful life. Our ability to communicate and converse are so wondrous and more fulfilling than fleeting romance.
Wilma Frana
I'd like to receive Catherine Anderson's Blue Skies.

Honeymoon by James Patterson and Howard Roughan

Any of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books that I have not already read. For the price, they give you hours and hours of great reading and there are so many different titles in this series. I feel there's something for everyone. I've given many of these books as gifts and the recipients were thrilled with them. In fact they, in turn, gave various titles to friends and family as gifts and received the same response.

I would like to give The Complete Works of Jane Austen to my daughter because she loves all things JA. Also I would give my husband and son The Complete Book of New Yorker Cartoons.
What would I like to get? Reading Lolita in Tehran.

I would give Exile by Alan Folsom. I loved this fast-paced thriller complete with vigilante cops, serial killers, and an heir to the Romanov throne.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, a perfect book to give someone for Valentine's Day.

My favorite book would be Outlander by Diana Gabaldon because that (and the rest of the series) is a testament to love!
