A wide ranging three I agree but these authors represent for me a way to escape from the sometimes weary world of a mother of an 8-month-old son. Perez-Reverte handles his subject matter with finesse. Not overbearing with facts and numbers but he works it convincingly into the storyline. Smith because I just love Mma Ramotswe and her adventures. Makes me laugh out loud. Fforde because of the literary adventures of Thursday Next and how wonderful to be able to purchase vacations to "live" in your favorite novel for a time.

I have so enjoyed the characters and substance of novels by Wally Lamb (I Know This Much Is True; She's Come Undone) that I am eager for his next work. The writings of Anna Quindlen (One True Thing; Living Out Loud; Black and Blue) have also shed new light on the human experience for me. But Richard Matheson (What Dreams May Come; Bid Time Return) goes beyond substance and explores our spirit in a way that just captivates me. More please!

Jodi Picoult never fails to tell a great story with a message that's easy to swallow. I look forward to each of her books. Margaret Atwood is brilliant. Every book she writes is an adventure in the written word. And Jeanne Ray is funny and light. Her books are joyful, and I don't ever want to miss one.
