What is your New Year's reading resolution?

mi3son@bellsouth.net
I want to read 100 books by the end of 2003. I will try to read new authors, catch up on some of my favorite authors' early works and read more African American books. I will try to make the library my home for a while, since I have taken off 4 months of not reading. These are my reading resolutions

First, let me congratulate you on a magnificent site. I feel like I died and went to Book Heaven! This year I'm going to do it! Really! I'm going to read all the books in my TBR bookcase. Don't ask me how many there are --- I've long since lost track. (Maybe 50-100, 200...?). But seriously folks, I'll be deliriously happy if I could manage to read just two books for every one I keep buying. Resistance is futile.

My reading resolution for 2003 is to read at least 12 books and to try at least 2 new authors.

I am going to force myself to read four heavy-duty classics this year, beginning with James Joyce's Ulysses, followed by Joseph Conrad's Lord Jim. When I was in college, Lord Jim was an English assignment. I hated it so badly that I bought the Classic Comic book and practically memorized it. I did pass the test on Lord Jimso I guess it wasn't a complete waste.

My New Year's resolution is to read at least 4 books a month and learn about 4 new authors in the year of 2003.

My New Year's Reading Resolutions would be:
1. To read more books in 2003.
2. To slow down on the book buying.
3. To read a few classics.

Every month, all year long, I will ask a person I respect (or perhaps not know very well) what their favorite book of all time is AND what their current read is. I will then choose one of the books they suggest and read it. This should give me the inspiration and joy from reading a book I might not have read.

My resolution is just to read more. I always have something to read near at hand, but sometimes other things take priority. This year, I'm moving my books farther up the priority list.

FRoybiskie@aol.com
My New Year's reading resolution is to get through at least a third of my to-be-read pile, which is currently at 500+ novels. Should be a fun year!

My 2003 resolution is to spend a minimal reading time of one hour per day. I hope that will work. Happy New Year!

My New Year's resolution for 2003 is to keep a reading journal. I've found that I'm not interested in keeping a general journal, but if I narrow the subject to one specific area, I enjoy journalizing very much.

This year, I want to read more of the books I already own. That way, I will have more shelf room to buy more books. Reading and owning books are two of my passions. I pass on some of the books I have read to friends. This way I can share the pleasure of the book with them. Discussing books ranks high on my fun things to do list.

To finally finish Ulysses.

Every year since 1977, my resolution is to read at least one book more that I did last year. I made it this year :-)

Donnamck@aol.com
My resolution for the year 2003 is to keep a record of all of the books that I read in the coming year. I already read a pretty wide variety, but somehow never seem to record them. Also I would like to begin reading more of the classics.

I like the idea you have planted: reading a book a month is a good resolution. I wholeheartedly agree with it. Secretly I hope to read MORE than one book a month and certainly think this is possible.

Reading resolution for 2003:
Ideally, I'd love to read a book a week, but I know that won't happen. So even reading two a month would be great so I could catch up on the "to be read" pile. I'd also like to explore more mystery authors.

I read a lot of books. My resolution is to be more selective and not read so much that it turns out to be a waste of time. Life is getting shorter every day, so I do not want to waste any of it.

Resolution for 2003: Read one book a month.

Candie1021@aol.com
I read a minimum of 75 books a year, all genres. This year I am going to keep a journal of the books I read.

My plan for 2003 is to broaden the range of books I read. I almost always read fiction, with a (very) occasional non-fiction book thrown in, usually a humor book by Dave Barry, Joe Queenan, the Onion, etc. I've begun to feel that I'm missing out on an opportunity to discover a different world of good books by limiting myself to fiction writing. Since I've become fascinated with politics and history recently, I think that I'll be bringing not just one, but two shopping bags with me now on my trips to the library.

I am making time to read every day, no matter how busy I am.

Annabelle973@aol.com
My reading resolution for the coming year is mainly just to keep reading and also read at least a few of the classics I missed out on in school or in later years.

Buttercupmlm@aol.com
My reading resolution for 2003 is reading more biographies. I want to be motivated by people who I admire. I feel like I need inspiration these days from people who survived their own difficult times and became role models for others.

My reading resolution for 2003 is to keep a reading journal of all the novels I read. I think it will be interesting and fun to see how many books I read per month, as well as the different types I read.

I keep a list all year of what I read and I like to read a variety of genres. I guess I would like to see myself read more books in 2003 than I got through in 2002. I read only 85 books for 2002, and previously I had gotten through at least 230. I guess working part time at a library takes away some reading time.

I think mine shall be to read some of the series books that I've saved up (and am still saving) waiting for them to be complete, such as Harry Potter. If I start them this year and she puts one out, that would be 5 of the supposed 7.

I resolve to read more in 2003, especially historical novels, autobiographies and biographies.

I have several books of essays that I have started but not finished. My only New Year's resolution is to finish these books.

My New Year's reading resolution is to find time to read more and to stretch my boundaries. I recently formed a reading group in my neighborhood and enjoy the challenge of pushing my mind towards the unfamiliar.
