Author Talk: Andrew Grant, author of False Positive

Recently, Andrew Grant took a break from his popular David Trevellyan series to write the stand-alone thriller RUN. He’s back now with an exciting new series about troubled Alabama detective Cooper Devereaux, which kicks off with FALSE POSITIVE. In it, Devereaux is partnered with cagey detective Jan Loflin, who’s fresh off a long undercover stint in Vice, when they’re put on a case that will test them both beyond their direst nightmares. Stand-alone or series, Grant knows how to write a knockout thriller. In this interview, he discusses why he chose to set FALSE POSITIVE in Birmingham, AL, how much he enjoys writing flawed heroes, and the differences between penning a solo book and one of many in a series.

Louisiana native Robert Crais is the author of the bestselling Elvis Cole novels. The latest entry in the series is THE PROMISE, which brings Elvis and his partner, Joe Pike, together with fan-favorite duo LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his German shepherd, Maggie. The quartet must join forces to stop a very dangerous killer. In this interview, Crais talks about creating the right circumstances for his characters from different books to feasibly cross paths and his rigorous research into the LAPD's K-9 Platoon. Rupert Thomson is the author of 10 acclaimed novels --- including THE INSULT, which was selected by David Bowie as one of his 100 Must-Read Books of All Time --- and one boldly honest memoir. His latest book, KATHERINE CARLYLE, is the story of a young woman who, unmoored by the death of her mother, abandons the set course of her life and goes on a mysterious journey to the ends of the world. In this interview, Thomson reveals how thinking beyond “genre” has contributed to the success of his work and why he feels compelled to live his books as he writes them (although his strategies vary from draft to draft).
