The Hunted

"Perspiration began trailing down her back again, and her
breathing became labored. Here it was, the day after her husband
had failed to return home from a ski-trip, and she already had more
stress than she was equipped to handle. Now, a car was following
her. Or was it?"

Dr. Lauren Chambers, a psychotherapist, suffers from agoraphobia
arising from the unresolved shooting of her father when she was a
child and the more recent loss of her practice. Fears of open
spaces, public places, standing in lines, sitting in movie
theaters, and being in elevators are some of the many daily events
that simply paralyze her.

When her husband Michael doesn't return from his cross-country ski
trip to Colorado, Lauren suffers all kinds of anxiety. She knows
she left Tucker, the Doberman, in the yard; but when she comes
home, he's in the house. Upon waking in the morning, the dog is in
the yard, even though he went to bed with her. Now the filled gas
tank is empty. At least, she thought it had been full.

Lauren's anxiety level peaks when someone puts "cheap floral sheets
on the bed. My mother gave them to us when we got married. We've
never used them," she tells the police. The psychological torture
Lauren becomes victim to is just beginning, and her occupation
proves to be an asset in Jacobson's THE HUNTED.

Mike Chambers was the steady one, the rock. When Lauren tells Nick
Bradley, the private investigator, about Mike's trip with his
fraternity buddies to preview the opening of a ski tour company,
she realizes she really doesn't know her husband. Who are his
fraternity friends? What college did they go to? And where in
Colorado did they go?

Honesty and trust are crucial issues that test Lauren's resolve.
Her father taught her to trust her heart, an idea that can mean the
difference between life and death. She questions her knowledge of
who her husband is and all she doesn't know about his past. Can he
be the undercover agent Harper Payne that FBI director Douglas Knox
is searching for? Can he be a liar? Can he be a killer?

This psychological twister breaks the mold of the typical thriller.
While Lauren questions the four years she spent with a man she
realizes she doesn't know, she tries to trust another man who wants
to help her piece her life together again. With breaches in
intelligence and players from all branches of American security, we
wonder can anyone truly know what lies in our loved ones' pasts and
can we trust them to be who they say they are?
