I am pleased to share that we have three author interviews running this week. And unlike what we have seen in the presidential and vice-presidential debates, the authors actually answer the questions that they are asked. Imagine that! As you know, I really do not like politics, but there are times when I watched the debates and I thought that maybe these folks can play "Jeopardy!" next. They can get a topic and say, "Economy for $200." Then they can answer something like "What is a problem that America faces?" Then the question can be resolved with a question instead of an answer! This might help.

Tatiana de Rosnay, author of Sarah's Key

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a 10-year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.

M. C. Beaton, author of A Spoonful of Poison: An Agatha Raisin Mystery

When Agatha Raisin goes to the remote hamlet of Comfrey Magna to politely turn down a public relations job, she encounters the stunning green eyes of handsome widower George Selby, and promptly agrees to do whatever PR work the village needs.

James Villas, author of Dancing in the Lowcountry

Ella Dubose is a Southern lady of a certain age --- an age at which memories of youth can rush in at every turn and overwhelm the present. But while Ella’s two younger children are concerned for her health and want to limit her independence, Ella --- elegant, unconventional, and unrepentantly willful --- has very different ideas.

It's raining the proverbial cats and dogs here today. Where did that expression come from anyway? The rain is pounding on the roof in a pretty regular staccato beat, and I think my typing on the keyboard is keeping rhythm with it. Actually I think I am typing faster than usual since it's coming down so hard. In some ways I like days like this since I just hunker down and work. There is no thought about "whether to swim or not to swim." We also live in a neighborhood where a lot of people take walks. I watch them out my big office window on Fridays and feel guilty that I am being sedentary and ponder if one seriously can consider a keyboard a piece of exercise equipment. Today I will be happy I am not a walker.

I confess that I am not yet ready for mums, falling leaves and chilly mornings. As the temperatures in New York are beginning to dip into the 50s, I am looking forward to maximizing the remaining warm days ahead.
