Becca King wasn’t always called Becca. When she learned that her stepfather, Jeff, was planning a murder, she and her mother went on the run. That meant saying goodbye to her old San Diego self, Hannah Armstrong, and saying hello to Becca King, who had horribly dyed black hair, who was overweight, and who was headed to an island off the coast of Washington to stay with a friend of her mother’s. Laurel, Becca’s mother, warns her always to be wary and on her feet, and gives Becca a cell phone with her number only. Finally, she reminds Becca to take care of her AUD box. Read More

About the Book
The first young adult book by a #1 New York Times bestselling author
Whidbey Island may be only a ferry ride from Seattle, but it's a world apart. When Becca King arrives there, she doesn't suspect the island will become her home for the next four years. Put at risk by her ability to hear "whispers" --- the thoughts of others --- Becca is on the run from her stepfather, whose criminal activities she has discovered. Stranded and alone, Becca is soon befriended by Derric, a Ugandon orphan adopted by a local family; Seth, a kindhearted musician and high school dropout; Debbie, a recovering alcoholic who takes her in; and Diana, with whom Becca shares a mysterious psychic connection.
This compelling coming-of-age story, the first of an ongoing sequence of books set on Whidbey Island, has elements of mystery, the paranormal, and romance. Elizabeth George, bestselling author of the Inspector Lynley crime novels, brings her elegant style, intricate plotting, incisive characterization, and top-notch storytelling to her first book for teens.

When two people meet, there are really six people present. There is each man as he sees himself, each man as he wants to be seen, and each man as he really is.

September 2012
September is one of my favorite months of the year. Even though I'm no longer in need of back-to-school supplies I still find myself jumping for joy when I see brightly colored notebooks for half-off and Crayolas in 64 different shades. Hey, you never know when you might need them.

The following are lists of books releasing the weeks of September 24th and October 1st that we think will be of interest to Bookreporter.com readers.
Robin WilliamsYou're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. AttributionRobin Williams
Horace MannDo not think of knocking out another person's brains because he differs in opinion from you. It would be as rational to knock yourself on the head because you differ from yourself ten years ago. AttributionHorace Mann
Denis WaitleyNo man or woman is an island. To exist just for yourself is meaningless. You can achieve the most satisfaction when you feel related to some greater purpose in life, something greater than yourself. AttributionDenis Waitley
Percy Bysshe ShelleyThere is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been! AttributionPercy Bysshe Shelley
September 21, 2012Summer, you were such fun; wish we could have booked you for a few more weeks, especially since in the New York area it’s been sunny with blue skies and no humidity. Yesterday, as I was walking crosstown to an author lunch, I was thinking how really blissful this weather is. The author was Jonas Jonasson, who is from Sweden --- and he is not a thriller author. Imagine that! Instead, he has written an international bestseller (to the tune of 3,000,000 copies sold worldwide) that has just been released here called THE 100-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED.
