Early June 2016

The past few weeks have truly made me feel like a kid again --- and not just because the warmer weather has me eating popsicles like they're going out of style. The beginning of June means the start of a new season of Potter-mania as readers start to gear up for the release of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD. I feel like a proud parent seeing all of you identify with your favorite houses --- yes, even you Slytherins. Several of our Teen Board Members are planning on taking bookish vacations in Hogwarts this summer, which you can learn more about in our June Report from the Teen Board. I'll have more information on how you can celebrate in our next newsletter, but don't worry, there are plenty of other fun bookish events coming up!

THE MUSEUM OF HEARTBREAK, Meg Leder’s young adult debut, was released on Tuesday, June 7th and the launch party was held at the fantastic NYC bookstore, McNally Jackson. I attended this event with Teenreads.com’s Rebecca Munro, who has nothing but praise for this novel. After listening to Meg, I know that this is a book that I have to pick up right away.

The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In MY LADY JANE, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of THE PRINCESS BRIDE, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed and only a passing resemblance to actual history --- because sometimes history needs a little help. At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England. Like that could go wrong.

Steven Rowley, author of Lily and the Octopus

When you sit down with LILY AND THE OCTOPUS, you will be taken on an unforgettable ride. The magic of this novel is in the read, and we don’t want to spoil it by giving away too many details. We can tell you that this is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can’t live without. For Ted Flask, that someone special is his aging companion Lily, who happens to be a dog. LILY AND THE OCTOPUS reminds us how it feels to love fiercely, how difficult it can be to let go, and how the fight for those we love is the greatest fight of all.

Brad Meltzer, author of The House of Secrets

Hazel Nash wakes up in a hospital and is told she's been in a car accident that killed her father and injured her brother. But she can't remember any of it, because of her own traumatic brain injury. Then a man from the FBI shows up, asking questions about her dad --- and about his connection to the corpse of a man found with an object stuffed into his chest: a priceless book that belonged to Benedict Arnold. Trying to put together the puzzle pieces of her past and present, Hazel needs to figure out who killed this man --- and how the book wound up in his chest.

Stephen King, author of End of Watch

Retired police detective Bill Hodges now runs an investigation agency with his partner, Holly Gibney --- the woman who delivered the blow to the head of Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, that put him on the brain injury ward. When Bill and Holly are called to a suicide scene with ties to the massacre, they find themselves pulled into their most dangerous case yet, one that will put their lives at risk, as well as those of Bill’s heroic young friend Jerome Robinson and his teenage sister, Barbara.
