Interview: Dan Wells, author of Ones and Zeroes (Mirador)

Mar 2, 2017

In an increasingly-technology driven world, lots of themes and ideas we thought we totally understood are taking on new meanings. For example, did you know you can technically be considered an athlete if you're a professional video game player? Author Dan Wells explores these and other concepts in his action-packed Mirador series, which began last year with BLUESCREEN. In celebration of the release of ONES AND ZEROES, the second book in the series, Teenreads.com interviewed Dan Wells, author of the New York Times bestselling Partials Sequence and the John Cleaver series. This action packed series will have you on the edge of your seat and leave you wondering about the future of technology. In our interview, you'll learn about what inspired this fantastic series!

A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline

March 2017

Back when I read ORPHAN TRAIN (a 2013 Bets On selection), I found myself thinking: Now what does Christina Baker Kline write after this? Happily she has surprised me with a wonderful story about yet another slice of American life. In A PIECE OF THE WORLD, she shares the story of Christina Olson, who was depicted in Andrew Wyeth’s famous painting, Christina’s World, which is on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art.

The Mother's Promise by Sally Hepworth

March 2017

Sally Hepworth writes books with characters that push you outside of your emotional comfort zone. In THE MOTHER’S PROMISE, Alice Stanhope has spent her life protecting and raising her daughter, Zoe. Without a dad on the scene, they have made themselves a family à deux. Zoe is troubled by social anxiety, but with Alice by her side, she has an anchor.

I See You by Clare Mackintosh

March 2017

Clare Mackintosh’s last book, I LET YOU GO, was a 2016 Bets On selection and one of my go-to recommends as it had one of the best twists in a thriller that I have read. Thus I was anxious to get my hands on I SEE YOU, to see what she would do this time around. Once again she has written a twist into her tale, and again it is brilliant.

Between friends, school, chores, college applications and after-school jobs, it can be really hard to find the time to sit down and read. When do you get most of your reading done? Please check as many as apply.

We always love hearing about an author's inpiration behind a novel. It can be small spark of an idea, but it is able to grow into a story. Stephanie Elliot, author of SAD PERFECT, is here to share her story about how her novel came to be. The title SAD PERFECT was  the first part of the book that came to her, the small spark that ignited into her novel. Inspired by Stephanie's daughter, who has an eating disorder, SAD PERFECT follows Pea who too has an eating disorder and when she meets a boy realizes she can't pretend that everything is okay.
