Each month, our Books on Screen feature spotlights movies, television shows, miniseries and specials that are based on books of various genres --- including novels, memoirs, comics, children's books, short stories and poetry --- along with the latest DVD releases.

July 2020

July's Books on Screen roundup includes the season one releases of "The Baby-Sitters Club" on Netflix and "Brave New World" on NBC's new streaming service, Peacock; the season two premiere of TNT's "The Alienist: Angel of Darkness"; a number of films available on demand, including The Outpost, Greyhound, The Sunlit Night and The Informer; and the continuation of the HBO series "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" and "Perry Mason."

June 2020

June's Books on Screen roundup includes the highly anticipated film Artemis Fowl on Disney+; the series premieres of "The Woods" on Netflix and "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" on HBO; the conclusion of HBO's "I Know This Much Is True" and NatGeo's "Barkskins"; the season two premiere of "NOS4A2" on AMC; and the DVD releases of The Hunt and Three Christs.

May 2020

As we continue to self-isolate amidst the coronavirus pandemic, there is no shortage of book-to-screen adaptations releasing in May to enjoy at home. This month's roundup includes the series premieres of HBO's "I Know This Much Is True," Netflix's "Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich" and NatGeo's "Barkskins"; the conclusion of "Defending Jacob" on Apple TV+; and the season finales of "Outlander" on Starz, "My Brilliant Friend" on HBO and "Killing Eve" on BBC America. Among May's DVD releases are Emma, The Informer and The Invisible Man.

April 2020

All feature films releasing in April have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, there are plenty of book-to-screen adaptations on television that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. This month's roundup includes the season one finale of Hulu's "Little Fires Everywhere"; season six of "Bosch" on Amazon Prime; the series finales of Syfy's "The Magicians" and HBO's "The Plot Against America"; and the series premieres of "Normal People" on Hulu, "Defending Jacob" on Apple TV+ and "Belgravia" on EPIX. Among April's DVD releases are Little Women, Just Mercy, The Turning, The Rhythm Section and Escape from Pretoria.

March 2020

March's Books on Screen roundup includes season one of "Little Fires Everywhere" on Hulu, the debut of the six-part series "The Plot Against America" and the season two premiere of "My Brilliant Friend" on HBO, and the season finales of NBC's “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” and USA Network's "Dare Me"; the feature films Bloodshot, The Hunt and Escape from Pretoria; and the DVD releases of Richard Jewell, Jumanji: The Next Level and The Song of Names.

February 2020

February's Books on Screen roundup includes the feature films Emma, The Call of the Wild and The Invisible Man; the first season of "High Fidelity" on Hulu, along with the season premieres of "Outlander" on Starz and "The Sinner" on USA Network; and the DVD releases of Doctor Sleep, The Good Liar, Jojo Rabbit and Color Out of Space.
