The 2023 International Booker Prize

The winner of the 2023 International Booker Prize is TIME SHELTER by Georgi Gospodinov, translated by Angela Rodel. This is the first novel originally published in Bulgarian to win the prize. In the book, a "clinic for the past" offers a promising treatment for Alzheimer’s sufferers: each floor reproduces a decade in minute detail, transporting patients back in time. But soon the past begins to invade the present.

The winners of the 2022 National Book Critics Circle Awards were announced on March 23rd during a ceremony at the New School in New York City.

Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction 2023

The American Library Association (ALA) has selected THE SWIMMERS by Julie Otsuka as the winner of the 2023 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and AN IMMENSE WORLD: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us by Ed Yong as the winner of the 2023 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction.

The National Book Awards 2022

The winners of the 2022 National Book Award in Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature and Young People's Literature were announced on November 16th at the 73rd National Book Awards Ceremony. Two lifetime achievement awards also were presented as part of the evening’s ceremony. Tracie D. Hall, the Executive Director of the American Library Association, received the National Book Foundation’s Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. And Art Spiegelman, who is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel, MAUS, was recognized with the Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

The 2022 Kirkus Prize

The winners of the 2022 Kirkus Prize were announced on October 27th in a hybrid ceremony at the Austin Central Library in Austin, Texas, hosted by Kirkus Media CEO Meg LaBorde Kuehn and streamed live on YouTube.

The 2022 Booker Prize

The 2022 Booker Prize has been awarded to Shehan Karunatilaka for his second novel, THE SEVEN MOONS OF MAALI ALMEIDA. The book tells the story of a war photographer who has woken up dead in what seems to be a celestial visa office. He has "seven moons" to try and solve the mystery of his death and to help unveil a cache of photos that will rock war-torn Sri Lanka. It is worth noting that Karunatilka is the second Sri Lankan author to win the Booker Prize, following Michael Ondaatje, who won in 1992 for THE ENGLISH PATIENT. The Nobel Prize in Literature 2022

The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2022 has been awarded to French author Annie Ernaux “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.” In her writing, Ernaux consistently and from different angles examines a life marked by strong disparities regarding gender, language and class. Her path to authorship was long and arduous.
