The serial killer has been the subject of countless novels, movies and works of nonfiction, and the names of the most infamous are well-known. Psychological and medical theories abound on what made them that way and what defines a serial killer as opposed to a mass murderer. But it is not often that we get the chance to read what they have to say about themselves. Although this insight is not exactly the point of Pete Earley's latest exploration of true crime, it is one of its most compelling features. Read More

Pete Earley tells the strange but true story of how a young man’s devastating brain injury gave him the unique ability to connect with the world’s most terrifying criminals.
About the Book
Fifteen-year-old Tony Ciaglia had everything a teenager wants --- good grades, good athletic skills, and good friends --- until he suffered a horrific head injury at summer camp. Pronounced clinically dead three times by helicopter paramedics before he reached a hospital, Ciaglia lapsed into a coma. When he emerged his right side was paralyzed and he had to relearn how to walk, talk, and even how to eat. His brain damage also required him to take countless pills to control his emotions.
Abandoned and shunned by his friends, he began writing to serial killers on a whim and discovered that the same traumatic brain injury that made him an outcast to his peers now enabled him to connect emotionally with notorious murderers. Soon many of America’s most dangerous psychopaths were revealing to him heinous details about their crimes --- even those they’d never been convicted of. The killers opened up to him, trusted him, and called him a “best friend.”
But there was a price. As Tony found himself being drawn deeper and deeper into their violent worlds of murder, rape, and torture, he was pushed to the brink of despair and, at times, forced to question his own sanity --- until he found a way to use his gift. Asked by investigators from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to aid in solving a murder, Tony began launching his own personal searches for forgotten victims, with clues often provided to him voluntarily by the killers themselves.
THE SERIAL KILLER WHISPERER takes readers into the minds of murderers as never before --- straight from a killer’s thoughts to paper. It is also an inspiring tale of an American family whose idyllic life is shattered by a terrible accident, and how healing and closure came to a tormented man in the most unlikely way --- by connecting with monsters.

About the Book
A dedicated policeman caught in terrifying circumstances, Captain Alexei Korolev of Criminal Investigation Division of the Moscow Militia may be unwavering in his outward party loyalty but he is forever conflicted about what he must do to maintain that good standing.
It is 1937, and Korolev finds himself on an airplane bound for Odessa after the suspicious suicide of Maria Alexandrovna Lenskaya, a loyal young party member who supposedly had an illicit intimate relationship with the party director. His instructions are to determine if her suicide was actually a cover-up for murder, and if so, to find her killer, but under no circumstances reveal her close ties to the director.
Maria was working on the set of a movie subsidized by the state, and between everyone involved in the production, her journalist boyfriend, and countless nosy locals, the pool of possible suspects is large and daunting. Korolev finds help from several quarters that are every bit as ominous as they are useful, but none of them can make up for the one important fact of his case which he cannot discuss.
Moral, loyal, and also committed to justice, Captain Alexei Korolev is trapped between the demands of the party and those of the truth

CELL 8 may well be one of the best thrillers you will ever read, whether you are a fan of Nordic noir or not. Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström have created a damaged, rumpled protagonist in the personage of Ewert Grens, a deputy superintendent with the Stockholm police. Grens is possessed of an almost perpetual scowl. Filled to the brim with impatience, prone to anger, on the wrong end of middle age and dumpy to boot, he is infused with a canny instinct and a dedication to his own moral compass. Read More
