His technique for introducing us to these amazing women of the Bible is immediately engaging as he invites the reader to join him on a journey to Heaven. Not only do we see the wonders of the Heavenly realm, as he imagines it will be, we are enriched by hearing the backstory of each astonishing woman, the first of whom is Ruth.

Ruth shares her feelings and experiences in a unique way that gives her role in history even greater dimension than we may have imagined. She talks about her love for her husband, Mahlon, despite the fact that theirs had been an arranged marriage. She also immediately loved his widowed mother and admired their traditions, though they were strange to her. So when her husband is killed, Ruth felt a strong bond with her mother-in-law, Naomi, and knew that she wanted to take care of her.

The lesson is that if Ruth had not followed her heart and acted out her love for Naomi, she would not have met Boaz. Boaz was a Godly man who married Ruth, making her and Naomi part of his family. But that's not the end of the story. Ruth gave birth to Obed, who fathered Jess, who fathered David, Israel's great king and ancestor of Jesus Himself!

As we move along, we meet Sarah, who reminds us: Don't complicate God's promise with your solution. The delightful journey continues, and we hear from Rehab, Hannah, Abigail and others. Each shares a gem of wisdom that can inspire and enrich our lives. Each leaves us with prayer directly related to her experiences.

Included in every chapter are lessons for leadership as well as questions to consider, individually or in a small group. As I finished the last chapter, I found myself wishing for more. I missed not seeing Esther, Rachel, Jael, Tamar and many other women who contributed to the fullness of Biblical wisdom. Perhaps a sequel, Dr. Maxwell?
