Always on My Mind: A Christiansen Family Novel

ALWAYS ON MY MIND, the fourth installment in Susan May Warren’s Christiansen Family series, brings middle son Casper home from his treasure-hunting adventures in Honduras. Trading the beaches of Roatan for the subzero north woods of Minnesota, Casper is hoping to reunite with the woman he can’t get out of his head --- beautiful Raina Beaumont. The last time he saw Raina, he had just come to blows with his brother, Owen, with whom Raina had a one-night fling. Raina deeply regretted the error in judgment, which took place before she met and fell in love with Casper. After the fight, both brothers went their separate ways, leaving Minnesota and Raina in their rear-view mirrors. Neither was aware that Raina harbored a secret that had led her to break off her relationship with Casper. She was pregnant with Owen’s child.

"ALWAYS ON MY MIND beautifully blends drama, emotion and action with great writing, believable characters and a compelling plot. Add a snowy setting at a rustic, woodsy resort, and you have a book worth reading and sharing."

Five months searching for treasure in Honduras leaves Casper empty handed. He has no treasure or great accomplishments, just a heart that still aches for Raina. Living half a world away provides plenty of time for reflection, and Casper’s wounds begin to heal. He returns to Minnesota, eager to see if Raina will give him another chance. But his timing couldn’t be worse.

Raina feels certain she is not cut out to be a mother. Her own mom died when Raina was a child. Guilt-ridden over her teen brother’s death, her mistake with Owen, and hurting Casper, Raina arranges for her unborn baby to be adopted. She is ready to get the whole ordeal behind her and move on, if only the baby would come. At last her labor begins…moments after Casper arrives at her door, unaware she is pregnant with Owen’s child.

Though their initial reunion is packed with emotion and harsh words, the two attempt to become friends, despite the love and hurt each harbors for the other. Casper turns to faith for strength, not only for himself, but also for Raina as she struggles with the pain of giving up her baby. When they are thrown together by their jobs and a local history mystery, Casper and Raina grow ever closer, igniting a dangerously jealous fire in Raina’s new boyfriend. Whether the new guy’s hold on Raina keeps her from the man she truly loves will depend on her rediscovering the strength and wisdom that comes with trusting God.

Like its three predecessors in the Christiansen Family series, ALWAYS ON MY MIND beautifully blends drama, emotion and action with great writing, believable characters and a compelling plot. Add a snowy setting at a rustic, woodsy resort, and you have a book worth reading and sharing. Susan May Warren lives up to her title of award-winning novelist with each book in this series. Romance, adventure, family feuds, faith lost and found, hearts broken and renewed --- it’s all there for the reading. ALWAYS ON MY MIND can certainly be read as a stand-alone title, but why would anyone want to do that? Read the whole series. You’ll be glad you did.
