Memorial Day weekend is finally here. For many of us, that means BBQing, hours-long sunning and some nice R + R (i.e. reading by the pool/beach). It’s also the unofficial start of summer (read: iced coffee season), which means long balmy nights, picnics in the park and book-to-screen blockbuster movies.

That’s right --- arguably the hottest (no pun intended) time of year for the big screen is on the other side of this weekend, and it’s slated to be a total scorcher. It seems like the number of books being made into movies these days is at an all-time high, and there’s no complaints here. The summer 2017 lineup reminds me of the bestselling hits, some from the past few years and some before my time.

Today is a very special day for very many people (read as: Star Wars fans). It’s the fourth of May and its #StarWarsDay. While I’m definitely a fan, I’m not as big of a fan as a lot of folks out there. I know that there are levels of force fandom that I haven’t even fathomed, but what I do see is an already passionate and huge community and that’s pretty cool. The eighth installment of the series, The Last Jedi, is set to hit theaters December 15th --- you can peep the trailer here. It’s also Carrie Fisher’s final appearance in a film (still sad that she passed away last December) and it’ll be oh so bittersweet to see Princess Leia one last time. You can count on there being a handful of fun events leading up to the release, and one that caught my eye is worth mentioning. It's perfect for concert lovers and those in the NYC/Tri-state area --- the New York Philharmonic's Star Wars: Film Concert Series. Needless to say, it looks awesome. Tickets went on sale to the public today, so click here to learn more --- and may the force be with you.
